After tucking her cell phone into her pocket she made her way over to her closet, grabbing a pair of boots, hopping on one foot as she pulled them on. Once she was completely dressed in riding clothes, she went into the bathroom and grabbed her hair brush, pulling it through her knotted brown hair to smooth it out once more. Examining herself in the mirror for a short moment she smiled and then ducked out, checking her pocket for her keys instinctively, making sure they were still there. As she ducked out of her room at her fathers' house she ended up stopping dead in her tracks, her father standing in front of her, staring down at her with hazel eyes. "Going to the barn?" His voice was a little rough and filled with a sleepy tone, Kat nodded and offered a smile. "Yeah, figured I'd check out my dorm later today too, after I take Chance out." Her tone was soft and then her father gave her a nod of dismissal, but as she went to slip by him he stopped her again. "Be here for dinner at five?" Even though it was phrased as a question, the mans' eyes gave it away as more of a demand. Wrinkling her nose a little she quickly nodded, making a mental note to be here early in case he planned on making her help cook to. She waited to be sure that her father was finished this time before heading down the hall, rolling her eyes a little as she heard her snoring brother in one of the other rooms. The small family had just moved here no more then a week ago, so they were all still settling in, Kat and Kaleb having yet to get their dorms set up so they were still staying with their parents. After getting into her car, it really hadn't taken her too long to reach RRA, and from there she immediately went into the barn. She had already gotten her two horses settled when they first arrived, her boots clicked against the concrete isles of the barn as she walked, a slight bounce in her step now. She was anxious to take her gelding out, though she knew that the horse would be full of it after being cooped up in his stall all night, so she just hoped that all went well. Once she reached the geldings' stall she slipped inside and murmured a hello, gently patting his neck before slipping back out to see her filly too, as well as fetch her tack. When she had finally returned, her western saddle resting in her arms and Chance's bridle over her shoulder, she noticed that the gelding was already trying to cause problems, leaning over his stall door as he fiddled with the latch on the outside, in attempt to free himself. "Looks like I'm going to need to get a clip for that." She said with a slight smile and the horses head popped up, a soft nicker escaping the horses muzzle. Moving to place her tack over by a set of free cross ties in the barn, she then got Chance's halter, leading the paint gelding from his stall. Clipping him into the cross ties, Kat grabbed a curry comb and began running the rubber item in small circles over his coat, soon enough placing the item back and getting a soft brush, then a hoof pick. It wasn't long before Katherine was sliding the horses bridle into place and leading him from the barn, checking her phone on her way out to make note of the time. Once she was outside of the barn she swung the reins around Chance's neck as she stepped off to his left side, murmuring softly under her breath to the horse. Grabbing a small chunk of his mane in her left hand, while holding onto the reins she put her foot in the stirrup and carefully swung herself up into the saddle, Chance already showing his high spirits as he began side stepping and prancing in place as the girl tried to get situated on his back. "Shh, easy boy." Kat muttered as she turned him toward the trails, sitting deep in the saddle as she let him move out a little at a trot. She was suddenly getting a bad feeling about this, seeing as it was the first time she'd ridden in a few weeks, but she didn't let this faze her as she continued to murmur soothingly beneath her breath to the gelding. As they moved down the trail, Katherine's eyes flickered about, studying her surroundings with a curious eye. She hummed under her breath softly and gently stroked Chance's neck every so often, the gelding finally walking out nicely instead of prancing like he had been before. She had completely lost track of time by the time they rode up beside a lake, she eyed the water with a grin. Pressing her legs against her geldings barrel, she steered him toward the water, giving him slack in the rein so he could examine the liquid once they got to the edge. She planned on letting him go in and get his legs wet, considering the warm summer weather. Clicking her tongue she once again applied pressure to the horses' sides with her legs Chance shook his head and snorted, planting his feet. Furrowing her brows she tried again, this time the horse splashing into the water step by step. Katherine smiled to herself as she relaxed in the saddle, letting Chance splash and play in the water. She was just about to pull his head up and direct him back out of the lake when something on the other side moved, causing the horses head to jolt up. Kat suddenly came back to reality and went to gather Chance's reins but it was too late, the paint ducked out to the side quickly making a dash for the shoreline again. The girl flailed a little as she lost her balance, slipping off to the side when the horse had ducked out. She hit the water with a splash, only managing to spook Chance further as he backed up several feet off from the water. Sitting up she struggled to her feet, spitting out water as she went to wring out her hair, groaning. "Are you kidding me?!" She huffed her disapproval and glared at the horse on the shore while she stood there, just barely waist deep in the water. _______ tagged: diru/austin words: 1,114 notes: sorry it's so rambly T_T |
